Kramer Introduces the TP-121/123/125EDID Series of Computer Graphics Video and Audio Twisted Pair Transmitters

Advanced EDID Capture and Emulation Built-in for Accurate Connection to Sources

Hampton, New Jersey– August 30, 2010 – Kramer Electronics is pleased to announce the introduction of the high-performance TP-121/123/125EDID twisted pair transmitters with built-in EDID capture and emulation technology. These models are HDTV compatible and support resolutions up to WUXGA and 1080p. The built-in EDID capture and emulation capability ensures accurate signal resolution is output to any monitor connected without the need for an external EDID capture device.

The transmitters convert the input signals to twisted pair signals, and transmit them over twisted pair cables to a compatible receiver.  Each transmitter has a system range of more than 300ft (more than 100m) when used with Kramer BC-HDTP or BCP-HDTP twisted pair cable.  The TP-121EDID and TP-123EDID transmitters also employ Kramer’s Power Connect™ feature.

The TP-121/123/125EDID can all store and recall a default EDID setting in non-volatile memory allowing convenient and accurate connection to any source. EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is 128 bytes of data that a display provides to the graphics card of a connected computer source. The EDID describes the display’s capabilities so that the source can output the best possible signal for that display. The source and the display exchange this information over the Display Data Channel 2 (DDC2) using pins 12 and 15 of a standard 15-pin HD computer graphics video signal connector.

The TP-121/123/125EDID ensure that if a display is turned off, temporarily disconnected or is out of communication with the source, the source continues to output the best possible signal resolution. The EDID emulation makes the source think that the display is still directly connected even when the EDID information is unavailable directly from the monitor.

Systems including matrix switchers, distribution amplifiers, 5-wire coax signal distribution and twisted pair range extenders, for example, are unable to pass EDID information, since pins 12 and 15 from the monitor are not available to the source in these applications. In all these instances the TP-121/123/125EDID can be used to capture the EDID information from the display and provide that EDID communication to the source assuming that a proper 15-pin HD VGA cable that passes all 15-pins is used between the source and TP-121/123/125EDID. This allows the source to output the best possible signal for that display device.

All three models are computer graphics video and audio line transmitters.  They receive a computer graphics video signal and an analog unbalanced stereo audio signal and transmit them over a twisted pair cable to the compatible receiver.  They convert the unbalanced stereo analog audio signal to a digital audio (S/PDIF) stream before transmitting, thereby preserving the quality of the original audio signal.  The transmitters have a range of more than 300ft (more than 100m) when using Kramer BC-HDTP or BCP-HDTP high-quality twisted pair cable, and a 20kHz audio bandwidth with an S/N ratio that exceeds 80dB.

The TP-123EDID transmits unidirectional RS-232 commands from the source to the display over the twisted pair cable together with the computer graphics video and unbalanced stereo audio signals. The TP-125EDID transmits and processes bidirectional RS-232 control command signals in addition to the computer graphics video and unbalanced stereo audio signals.

The TP-121/123EDID transmitters each employ Kramer’s Power Connect™ feature, where a single connection to each transmitter powers both the transmitter and receiver. The required 12V DC is transmitted through the twisted pair cable, along with the other signals to the compatible receiver. Both the transmitter and the receiver must be powered when using the TP-125EDID.

"This range of these twisted pair transmitter’s combines simplicity and convenience for the installer”, states David Jayes, Chief Technology Officer for Kramer Electronics. “Using a single, cost-effective high quality CAT cable, they all transmit high resolution computer graphics video or High Definition video signals together with audio, while the TP-123 and TP-125 offer options for RS-232 communication as well.”

The TP-121/123/125EDID transmitters are housed in compact Kramer DigiTOOL™ enclosures. The TP-121EDID sells in the United States at a list price of $355.00. The TP-123EDID sells in the United States at a list price of $415.00 and the TP-125EDID sells in the United States at a list price of $535.  These transmitters are currently in stock and available from Kramer Electronics sales companies around the world. A list of compatible receivers for each of these models and complete product information can be found at www.kramerus.com.
